This group, founded in 1978 with the creation of ENSUL, has always had a capability for expansion and efficient response to new challenges, meaning that nowadays its interests have been enlarged to new businesses and a presence in East Timor, France, Ireland, as well as projects and partnerships developed all over Portugal.
The evolution of the companies, mainly ENSUL and MECI, led to a growth that meant they could operate in different business sectors, beyond those that gave rise to the creation of the companies.
Amongst other businesses, investment in the property market in a partnership between ENSUL and JLF, gave rise to the concept ENSUL Imobiliária, currently on the market with the brand Orchidea. It was decided to go to East Timor in 2000 due to a belief in the potential of this country which also led to widening the activities of the company to commerce, notwithstanding its investment in construction, also in this country. In 2001, the company enlarged its presence in that part of the planet, starting its activities in Australia, where at present the company ENSUL Australia PTY LTD is based.
MECI broadened its activities to several businesses such as concessions, alternative energies, transport, the environment and geo-information. This evolution of the different companies in the group, both ENSUL and MECI, as well as others that were created and became independent, were characterised by ongoing success and innovation.
In 2005 the business and organisational models of the ENSUL/MECI group were reviewed, in a global action for the whole group which resulted in the creation of another name, Esphera Capital SPGS, S.A.

The fusion process that took place at the end of 2007 resulted in the creation of the company ENSUL MECI – Gestão de Projectos de Engenharia, S.A. and this is the company that remains as the representative of the engineering cluster in Portugal.

In France, and after a few years experience, MECI – Gestion de Projects d´Ingénierie S.A.S.U was created in 2006, a new company according to French law.

Similarly, a six year presence and work in East Timor proved the investment had paid off. On 29th December 2006, the limited company ENSUL Engenharia SA was established in East Timor with a capital of 50,000 USD, 100% held by ENSULMECI.

In 2007, MECI - Engineering Project Management Limited, a company based in Dublin was set up and in 2008 ENSULMECI - Gestión de Proyectos de Ingenieria was created to develop the activity in Spain.
