PORTUCEL SOPORCEL cogeneration power plant |

SPCG's new combined cycle cogeneration power plant is up and running at Portucel Soporcel's manufacturing complex in Setúbal. The completion of this project is a fundamental step towards increasing paper production capacity and is associated with the implementation of a new paper factory of the Portucel Soporcel Group located at this manufacturing complex.
The main objective of the new cogeneration power plant is supplying steam to the new paper factory of About the Future- Empresa Produtora de Papel S.A, a Portucel Soporcel Group company, and consists of two gas turbines, two recovery boilers and a steam turbine.
The aeroderived gas turbines manufactured by General Electric have a power output of around 30 MWe at the alternator terminals. The recovery boilers use the exhaust gases from the gas turbines and also feature an additional burner system. The steam turbine has a power of 16 MWe at the alternator terminals and the extraction and exhaust steam is used at the new paper factory.
The gas turbines are encapsulated to protect them from bad weather and to ensure adequate sound levels. In order to minimise the forming of nitrogen oxides (NOx) the burners of the combustion system have low levels of emission.

> 2 groups of gas turbogenerators and one group of steam turbogenerators. The facilities will produce a total electric power of around 82 MWe at the terminals of the respective alternators, of which 43 MWe are for the new paper factory and the rest for sale to the Public Electricity System. The interconnection will be made at the Praias do Sado 60 kV substation.
> 2 boilers for recovering energy contained in the exhaust gases from the turbines will have a maximum continuous steam production capacity of 150 ton/h at 82 bar(g) of overheated steam at a temperature of 510ºC and at a pressure of 82 barg and of 10 ton/h of low-pressure steam. All the generated steam is destined for the process of the new paper machine.
